02/03/2009: Important News: Robbie Williams

This is getting silly! Very silly! I have just read yet another press story that Robbie has joined my UFO research group.

FOR THE RECORD:

We do not discuss our membership with the press or any other agency. All witness and membership details are confidential. However, I am now feeling very embarrassed by these stories that have been printed without even calling me to check the facts.

I have never said I have had contact with Robbie and I have never said he is a member of my group.

28/02/09: Lights over Wiltshire

The SUFOR desk has been overrun by reports of strange lights over the sky in Swindon and surrounding areas. The lights were seen from Wootton Basset, Swindon town, Abbey Meads, Cirencester, Cricklade and many other locations. So far over forty witnesses have come forward! The lights have been reported as large orbs dancing & playing in the clouds and triangle formations with lights at each point. We are looking into the causes behind this. Leading theories at this time include Circencester college light show, a light show of unknown orgin and the possibility of military activity from Hullavington. It is possible the sightings are a combination of one or more of these.

From the many descriptions, it does appear to be a most likely cause of spotlights or lasers.

If you have any pictures or video footage please let us know.

22/02/09: Lantern Release: Swindon, Wiltshire

A host of lanterns have just been released over Swindon town at 19:40pm this evening. The lanterns, at least ten in number and appearing as glowing orange orbs, were last seen heading on a northern flight path having been launched near the County Ground area. We shall see how this is reported tomorrow.

12/02/09: Burnham-on-Sea (Brean) UFO Video

I always considered the UFO stories in the press were written from one type of perspective. Now there is proof if it was really needed. Read more here.

02/02/09: Latest Sightings Report

Two sighting reports have been made to the SUFOR hotline this year. The full details are detailed on the 2009 page in the case log.

Two red lights were seen hovering near the Great Western Hospital. The lights which were bright and close together were witnessed in the early hours of the morning. The case was investigated and images were taken of the UFO.

The second case was reported at dusk and involved a glowing amber light with a large black structure above it. The structure, described as an upturned coffin shape appeared high in the sky as it slowly moved over Wiltshire.

Another case reported in the local Swindon Advertiser described a series of glowing lights. SUFOR comments on the case proved to be true when it was discovered this was the result of a party where lanterns had been released.

If you have experienced something strange you can contact us on the reporting hotline by calling 01793 484510. Alternatively you can email us or fill out the sighting report which can be found here.

18/01/2009: Police chase UFO over Swindon!

When the Swindon UFO desk received a report of an orange ball of light in the sky on the 27th of July, thoughts immediately turned to lanterns. It was a good job that lanterns were not automatically assigned as culprits, which during those lantern sighting rich days, could have so easily been the case. Read more here.

10/01/2009:T-Shirts now available (Ebay sale has ended, to buy a t-shirt for £9.99 + £2.50 postage please email us).

Blog has been updated (22/12/09).

29/11/2008: Lamenting Lanterns

What has North Sheffield, Warwick, Clwyd, Selby and London have in common?

They have all recently been reported in various newspapers with stories of orange glowing orbs in the sky. The standard reporting stance has been taken, with the witness reporting their sighting, usually followed by some ‘expert’ comment and then the ending line of ‘If you have seen anything please get in touch with the paper’. What exactly are the newspapers going to do with any reports the public sends in?

24/11/08 End of Year Summary

The last year will go down in ufology history as the year of the lantern.  Hundreds of sightings were reported across the country and covered in the national press.  We hope this exposure has helped in getting the subject back into the public eye, but we also look to the damage this may have caused.  Some of the stories were sensationalised to the point that the story no longer represented the facts of the case.
Read more here.

25/11/08 Phase II Complete

We are pleased to announce that the second phase of the SUFOR web page revamp is now complete.  The look of the site is very different than before and employs a bio-mechanical feel.  We hope that you like the new look of the site.  The artwork was produced by Sam Kelly Art and a huge thanks to Sam for all the hard work in creating the graphics.  Read more here.

18/11/08 New Web Site

The first cut of the new SUFOR website is up and running. We have removed a lot of the extra content, such as the Amazon page and RSS feeds. The site now returns to what it was always supposed to be. A research and investigation site. We hope you like the look and direction this will take us in.

15/11/08 Paranormal Conference

Swindon UFO Research have teamed up with UFO Warminster to create a conference with a difference which will be held on the August Bank Holiday in 2009.  The event, entitled Weird '09 will be held in Warminster.  We aim to make this the best conference you could attend in 2009 and have engaged a number of premier speakers for the weekend lectures/talks.  We have also arranged for nocturnal activities for delegates that will take the form of invites to the Annual Warminster Sky Watch, plus the chance to take part in a real paranormal investigation.

Click here  to view the conference.

12/11/08 Local Sightings

There have been two sightings recently in our area, both near Filton. The first, reported by thisisbristol.co.uk saw a witness describing a disc shaped object. The response by Denis Plunkett took me a little by surpise. So much so I posted a comment on the article. Immediately jumping to Aliens as the source of any sighting is not effective investigation. Perhaps the paper mis-quoted Denis? The second sighting was far more interesting. Featured in the Sun newspaper, we see alleged mobile phone footage of UFO's shooting beams to the Earth. After much debate, we now believe this footage to be a hoax.

5th November 2008

The SUFOR group meeting has been moved to the 10th of August (Monday) at 7:30pm.  It will still be at the George on Eastcott Hill.  This months meeting includes:

UFO Data conference update, Sighting reports update, latest on the Police chasing UFO over Swindon, the uber-secret project revealed and other group news.

Hope to see you there.

23rd October 2008

The recent release of government files caused a not unexpected media wave to wash across the UK and abroad.  The huge amount of work carried out by Dr. David Clarke goes unrewarded by the masses and for those of us that understand the effort he has put in, our thanks David.

I don't believe in UFO's

Out of all the statements made on forums and in the media this is the one that makes me cringe.  When being interviewed I hate being asked 'Do you believe in UFO's?'.  The problem of course is that the TLA has sunk into our collective consciousness as meaning flying saucer along with the associated connotations of Aliens, abductions, crop circles, trace evidence and such forth.  We seem to forget that the term UFO is not about any of these things.  The term is simply what the acronym defines it as - Unidentified Flying Object.  We all know the statistics on UFO to IFO conversion.

Some have announced that we should drop the term as researchers and investigators and go with UAP.  Do we give up on UFO or do we push against our collective culture to redefine its understanding of this term?  I for one will not give up - not yet at least, and I hope you the reader will not either.

Space is big.  And I mean Big

There appears to be a connection made between two belief systems that I consistently read and have discussions (yes with real people) about. The conversation usually goes along the following lines.  "I believe UFO's (meaning spaceships) are real because space is big, really big and we simply cannot be the only ones that live in it and they must be visiting us".

For years we argued if other planets existed outside of our solar system and now we discover these almost daily.  It's the same argument.  Does life exist elsewhere?  Most certainly it does.  But that is not the end of the question, it is but the start.  Does intelligent life exist elsewhere?  Possibly, after all why not? It would take some of the wonder out of the Universe if we ever discovered we were alone.   Whatever the truth it simply does not follow that because intelligent life may exist somewhere in the vast reaches of the Universe, that it is visiting us or even capable of visiting us.

22nd October 2008

PSI Lecture.

To celebrate Halloween, SUFOR has invited local Swindon paranormal investigators PSI to conduct a talk at the Moose International Hall at 7:30pm on the 20 th of October. We look forward to welcoming PSI as they explore Swindon's rich haunted heritage.

UFOData Conference.

SUFOR will be at the UFOData conference later this month. I will be supporting my good friend Kevin Goodman and enjoying the two day conference. If anyone wants to meet up, please let me know. The conference is on the 25th and 26th of October.

Exclusive SUFOR Investigation Result

Orange Lights in Swindon Skies

The reports over the summer of orange glows in Swindon skies had left SUFOR investigators scratching their heads. Although lanterns were being released all over the UK there was no history of lantern release over the town and something about the sightings did not fit the characteristics of lanterns or light shows. Initial investigations ruled out the Police helicopter / air ambulance and for a while the SUFOR investigation ground to a halt.

In early September an orange glow zipped across Swindon once again, this time witnessed by an investigator from SUFOR. It was unfortunate that no recording equipment was available. SUFOR then monitored the skies and after two weeks the glow re-appeared and was caught on video.

The investigator correctly indentified the object as a helicopter, but it took video analysis techniques to identify this as a military helicopter using high resolution infra red cameras.

The witnesses to the original sightings confirmed this is what they saw, so with several mysteries solved another one is created. What is this helicopter doing over Swindon skies?

Federation of Light.

Much was made of the prediction by Blossom Goodchild of the appearance of a giant spaceship (or lightship) from the 'Federation of Light', which was due to appear in our southern hemisphere on the 14 th of October. The message became corrupted with people believing it would appear of Alabama. Although the word Alabama was noted in the message channelled to Blossom, it was not directly linked to any location.

Nothing happened on the 14 th of October and SUFOR for one was not surprised at all. But what damage has this done to those of us who fight for Ufology to be taken seriously? This prediction is yet another nail in the coffin of credibility for our subject matter.

Phillip Mantle.

You may have seen many stories concerning the hoax that Phillip was subjected to. If anything it teaches all of us to double check our contacts and to never rely on one test or result. Unfortunately this was the case here and Phillip got his fingers burnt. On a personal note I hope Phillip is OK, takes a deep breath and continues with his research and investigation work.

Investigation in the Field.

We are undertaking two field trips in the coming month to investigation two sightings that have been reported to us. The sightings are at Wootton Bassett and Compton Bassett. I am putting a small investigations team together and we will publish the results as a SUFOR case in the Investigation diary.

08/10/08

The Sufor case log is now up to date.  Click on the Investigation Diary page for all the cases.

26/09/08

Our thanks to Nick Pope for coming all the way to Swindon for the lecture on the 22nd. It was fantastic to meet Nick and his talk was well received by the audience. Big thanks also to Brian, Mark, Kevin, Bob and Sandy for all their help in making the event a success.

We have been inundated with sighting reports over the last week or so and promise we will get back to each and everyone as soon as we can. Things are very busy at SUFOR at the moment with projects and other work.

We will be moving the sighting reports to our new web space. Look out for the new web pages over the next two months.

08/09/08

Report sighting on-line form added.  More sightings in Wiltshire - details to follow.

03/09/08

SUFOR have completed the Print At Home ticket project.  Any on-line booking now not only attracts a discount on the event price, but we will email your tickets.  You simply need to print these off and bring them with you on the event night.

Buy and reserve your tickets for the Nick Pope Talk today and save on the ticket price!!  See events page for more details!

28/08/08

Ten new sighting reports listed in Investigation Diary

We present three data feeds for UFO news.  The feeds are unmolested in any way.  Sufor provides this data without necessarily supporting any of the statements made.  We are an open minded group and believe that all data should be available.  What you make of the data is up to you. The contents of the news feeds are not the responsibility of Swindon UFO Research.

21/08/08:

The Warminster Mystery lecture was a great evening!  My thanks to Kevin Goodman for giving the talk and to Brian, Sam and Mark for the technical assistance.  Kevin's insight into the Warminster phenomena and presentation style was well received by the audience.

Look out for the Nick Pope lecture on the 22nd of September.  The graphic for the lecture (see home page) was created by Sam Kelly.  Sam is a talented artist and can be contacted here.

The next group meeting will be on the 13th of September.  We will confirm the venue beforehand.

14/08/08:

Had a great time with Kevin on the Radio Show.  It was fantastic to be able to talk to Nick Pope, Dr David Clarke and of course Gareth Phillips.

Thanks to all that turned up at the group meeting on the 12th!  My thanks especially to Frances for being so brave and re-telling your encounter story.  We all know how hard that was for you.

Don't forget Kevin Goodmans' talk on Warminster is on the 19th! Full details on the Events page.

01/08/08: Three new studies in Investigation Diary. Two more to post soon.

31/07/08:

Summer Sky Watching

The sky watch was a huge success with a dozen people turning up on the hill. The Swindon Advertiser was there and this Wednesday saw us on page 3 of the paper.

One of the interesting outcomes of the watch was the light we saw and identified as the police helicopter at approximately 10:20pm. Why is this interesting? The following day a witness came forward with a UFO sighting at 22:05pm. She informed me that the police helicopter had been sent to investigate the incident.

Hot line keeps going!

The hot line has brought in another batch of sightings. We currently have seven sightings on the books that need investigation. These vary in their nature and come complete with images, video and affirmation evidence.

I will update the web site over the next few days to include these in the sighting logs.

It's a very busy time for SUFOR!

Sufor on the Radio

On the 12 th of August on Swindon 105.5fm we have our hour-long UFO discussion show. Guests include Nick Pope, Dr David Clarke and Kevin Goodman. The show starts at 6pm.

nowthatsweird.co.uk

Slight change to the date for the Glastonbury radio show. This will now air on the 15th of August.  The show will air at 11pm and will run until midnight.

August Group Meeting

A special guest will be attending the group meeting, where she will re-tell her alien encounter experience and take questions on the events she was witness to.

Kevin Goodman will also be joining us breathless from the radio show!

The meeting will be  on the 12th at 7:30pm at the Kings Hotel, Old Town, Swindon. I may of course change the venue due to the noise levels last week.

August Talk

The talk is now confirmed for the 19 th of August. The lecture on the Warminster Mystery, by Kevin Goodman, will commence at 8:00pm. It will be held at the Moose International Hall, Eastcott Road, Old Town.

Tickets are £4.50 members, £6 non-members. Please book your tickets via the website, at the group meeting on the 12 th , or on the night.

Williams Weird Wadio!

I am starting my training to become a radio presenter. The concept of a one-hour 'Weird Hour' show is very much alive and hopefully will be on the air soon!

SUFOR project

Sufor has been invited to join a respected group of UFO investigators! More news on this to come, but I am honoured by this invite and hope this new confederation of study will take off across the UK.

Finally - see you on the 12 th !

New Logo Design

We have been lucky enough to find a talented graphics artist who has designed our new logo! The new logo, which is sleek and contemporary, continues the SUFOR ethos.

A new advertising campaign will be launched in the near future and will include T-shirts, fliers, posters and more media interviews.

July Events Calendar

We hope to see everyone at our next group meeting which will be on the 21 st of July at 7:30pm. The venue is the Kings Hotel, Wood Street, Old Town, Swindon, SN1 3BB.  The meeting will include a summary of the sightings for the month around the UK, cases from the Sufor investigation log and a discussion session.  All are welcome to the meetings regardless of what you believe.

Funds

We have set the prices for the tickets for Kevin Goodman and Nick Pope.  If you are able please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in these talks.

The membership fee has been set at a very reasonable £1.50 per month.  All funds raised are used to fund the lecture programme.

Don't forget you can also donate to the group via the donate icon on the home page.

Sufor on the Radio

I will be appearing on WCR FM on the 21 st of July.  WCR have been kind enough to invite me for the whole morning show as their studio guest. You can also hear us on Swindon 105.5fm on the 13 th of July at 9:45am.

nowthatsweird.co.uk

Glastonbury radio has been good enough to invite me onto their hugely popular show on the 8 th of August.  The show will air at 11pm and will run until midnight.

Book store open!

The book store has three sections.  This includes a recommended reading list which includes the works of Kevin Goodman, Steve Dewey and John Ries.

After much consideration I added a fortean book store powered by Amazon.  This decision was not taken lightly as it could be criticised as reducing the group ethos.  The book store is simply a fund generation mechanism to help fund the lecture programme and Sufor does not necessarily support the contents of any book listed.

August Group Meeting

A special guest will be attending the group meeting, where she will re-tell her alien encounter experience and take questions on the events she was witness to.

Summer Sky Watching - Some advice!

If you have been to other sky watches you will know this anyway.  If you have never been before you may find this useful.

Wear decent walking shoes or boots.  It can get muddy and the ground is uneven.

Water proof clothing is recommended.  The watch is out in the open and at the mercy of the British weather.

Bring a torch. It can get very dark.

A good idea is to bring a hot drink and perhaps something to eat.

Bring a camera or camcorder and a pen and paper.

Recording of any anomalies is critical and is the whole point of the adventure.

News Feeds

I have added up to date news feeds onto the Latest News page.  The feeds are unmolested and come direct from Google News and UFODigest.

UK a UFO Hotspot?

There have been a lot of sightings reported over the last month. Despite a certain national daily newspaper claims, all the sightings have been accounted for.  The aliens are not here - not yet anyway!

01/07/08

New sightings posted to the Investigation Diary. Updates to News and Video/Books pages.

29/06/2008

It's been a very busy month for us.  The group launch, media interest, venue and guest booking has taken a lot of time and effort.  We also had five reported sightings in June which will be posted very soon.

The Events page has been updated with the calendar until September.  You can now also purchase tickets for the lectures by Kevin Goodman and Nick Pope!

A word on recent UK wide events.

There has been much in the media recently concerning UFO sightings around the country.  South Wales police chasing UFO's and the Liverpool sightings to mention only two!  A certain national newspaper now has a UFO section and has set up a skywatching camp.

All this public attention is good isn't it?  We at Sufor hope so.  However, do not believe everything you read in the papers.  They need to sell copies and the stories they publish do have a certain slant to the data!

All of the sightings in the UK have had good explanations put forward for them.  Solar balloons and lanterns looking like the most likely cause for the majority of sightings.

The aliens are not coming - not yet anyway!

18/06/2008

Sufor launch day was a great success.  My thanks to everyone who turned up and especially to Kevin Goodman for helping with the launch.

I have revamped the Home page.  You can now subscribe to news updates, join the group or donate funds to help us continue with the Events and Education Programme.

I have updated the About page.

Four more sightings have been reported.  These will appear on the site in the next few days.

We have confirmed our venue as the Kings Hotel, Wood Street.  We will confirm dates and speakers as soon as possible and post them on the Events page.

11/06/2008

Due to the media interest of the public launch of the group I have created a new link from the home page called Media.  This gives contact details and listings of our appearances.

Four sighting reports received that need investigation.

08/06/2008

New sighting reported in Tetbury. Details on the investigation page.

02/06/2008

We have been a guest with  Wiltshire Phenonema Research at several of their investigations.  To read the article on the Devizes investigation click here.   To read the article on the Warminster investigation click here.

The SUFOR Summer Sky Watch has been postponed until July. Updates will be posted here when the new date is confirmed.

SUFOR has cleared all outstanding sighting reports.  The results of which have been posted on the Investigations  page.

We featured on BBC Wiltshire lunchtime radio.  It was an interesting experience in which we were given the chance to discuss the UFO phenonema and to consider the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe.

New Investigation Reports. Click here .
